VANOC 'u-reduce/u-produce' Digital Video Story Telling Contest Winners
The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) u-reduce/u-produce - digital video storytelling contest was held from February 9 - March 10, 2009 as part of VANOC's sustainability awareness and education program. VANOC invited B.C. youth between the ages of 13 to 24 years old to submit a 30 - 90 second video or animation showcasing innovative actions people can take to reduce their environmental footprint.
Congratulations to the winners whose submissions impressed the judges with original, often humorous and very thoughtful videos.
1st Place
Hurtin our Planet
Darrick "D-Pain" Lee and Michael "Phat Mike" Darnel, both 15 years old and from Richmond B.C., wrote and recorded an original rap song to accompany their u-reduce/u-produce video entry entitled "Hurting our Planet". The music video shows D-Pain and Phat Mike providing advice on how to live green, from transportation, to conservation to recycling.
2nd Place
One
"One" was written and directed by 15 and 16 year old students in the TREK Program at Prince of Wales Secondary School in Vancouver. The student film-makers are Brendan Dee Buchanan, Tasha Cameron, Bianca Mattu, Peter Staiger, Solaye Snider and Vincent Kwiatkowsky.
