Your Sustainability Commitment
Conference attendees are encouraged to make their participation as environmentally sustainable as possible, especially in terms of travel. Please consider the following tips and ideas for reducing the environmental footprint of your travel:
Traveling To and From the Event
- Book the most direct route possible and avoid stop-overs as they increase total emissions of your flight
- Utilize public transit or high-occupancy shuttle services from the airport to your accommodations
- Offset the GHG emissions associated with your travel
At the Conference
- Recycle your bottles, cans and paper at recycling stations throughout the event venue to reduce waste
- Bring your own reusable mug, water bottle, pen and pencil
- Collect business cards of exhibitors and have them e-mail reports and other information rather than collecting printed hand-outs
- When attending the exhibition, take only the information you really require
Staying at a Hotel
- Turn off and unplug all electrical appliances when you leave your room, including lights and lamps, TV, air conditioner/heater, coffee pot, hairdryer and iron
- Reuse towels and sheets to reduce consumption of energy, water and soap
- Choose eco-friendly food and beverage options including locally-produced, Oceanwise and natural foods
Getting around Downtown
- Walking: The Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre (VCEC) is within walking distance of many downtown locations. Plan your trip by foot (Note: the VCEC is L5 on this map)
- Biking: There are numerous dedicated bike lanes on several streets and avenues in downtown Vancouver. Also, there are several bike lock-up racks on the Cruise Ship level of Canada Place. Plan your trip by bicycle.
